Can DevOps environment become beneficial for design and UX

A we know that the UX is the most emerging trends for User Experience and Most of the businesses are on digital wheels like mobile apps.

The strategy and design solutions should always be aligned with business goals of the company. When you have a digital product, you should ask yourself a fundamental question: “What do I want to achieve with this site or mobile app?”

Importance of UX:

User experience in every way is the integral part of any product or website. It helps in word-of-mouth publicity. It can either retain your customer or drive away. It plays an important role in conversions your website is going to bring. It gives your customer a fulfilling experience and makes the involvement enjoyable and seamless. Design and experience make you distinct from the crowd. User remembers it. UX talks a lot about being user-centric and focusing on user needs. After all, the goal of UX is to give users solutions that they will love. But let’s be honest – most businesses don’t want to deliver great user experience for purely altruistic reasons. They do it because they want to run an efficient and profitable company. When they invest in user experience, they want business results. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what is good for the organization.

Role of DevOps in product lifecycle:

In DevOps, definitely developers and operators are the two key people involved but it also caters the other resources also like people in marketing, designing. In the agile environment, a developer has to deliver the piece of code from time to time and it goes through the entire cycle from building to deployment. The ease of this process can be achieved through prototyping the UX at early stage in the product lifecycle. Though the workflow of the developer is completely different than that of the end user. But to make the process faster and seamless, there has to be a better way.

Need of DevOps in UX:

For scaling and in the microservices architecture, UX plays an important role to analyze failures and to measure the performance of the software. In order to achieve this, UX designer needs to be involved in every stage of building and adapting to the changes required. This will help to align every aspect of the development with user experience will not just result in rapid and seamless development but going to drive

future of UX design.

But design and UX also has its own lifecycle which goes through from prototyping to building and thereafter delivering it. It goes through adapting the changes from time to time. Number of revisions of the designs are made of as per the requirement and feedback of the customer. In order to achieve the better experience, design is improved in agile environment. To tackle the ever-changing design, DevOps can be productive environment to do so.

While Developers workflow contains push, pull, review, merge, designers have to communicate their designs, review, apply the changes. After initial planning, defining and prototyping, the design goes through a lifecycle repetitively in the agile environment.

Steps in UX lifecycle:

  • Every step in UX lifecycle has different outcomes
  • In Research and Discover, one has to understand the customer’s problem statement, their pain point and try to analyze their mindset.
  • Ideate and Design is actual prototyping of the UX. It can have wireframes designed by collaborating with the team
  • Building and Testing is a repetitive process in this lifecycle where the focus is to create a solution for the customer and create am experience.
  • Deploy and Measure is to align and deploy the solution by integrating it with the release.

DevOps integration for UX:

Each step can be broken down into the sprints and the end goals can be achieved. By giving constant revisions of the design and constantly communicating with the team, designers can work in their full capacity. Designers will be able to review the frames, page rendering, workflows, screens, any graphic locators change faster. And the cycle will become efficient, from engineer to PM to cross-team the process will become transparent. A collaboration between the DevOps and graphic tool will simplify the process for everyone in the tree and will reduce the hardships of the designer. E.g., GitLab already has a plugin for Figma. We need more and more inclusion of DevOps in graphic tools.
