Portable Augmented Reality used as a tool for smart phone

The AR is the most powerful technology now a day which ‘augments’ your reality by blending the real and digital world scenario in such a way so to provide a unique experience. It is used to bring the good real experience where the programmer can have the flexibility to enables these features. Now if we look into the real-world way then we are using Augmented Reality every day, although most people aren’t aware of it.

For Examples as of now the Augmented Reality took off in mobile with popular apps like Pokemon Go or features on Snapchat. These are the popular apps that is used to introduce many people to the seemingly futuristic concept. As per the modern analysis made by google the AR market is growing very rapidly now a days and so, let’s see what’s the buzz.

WHAT IS AR?

When we are used to go for the typical definition of Augmented Reality (AR), Then it is basically used to expands our ‘real’ or physical world. By using this technology, we can be able to impose the digital data that is being sound, video or text onto your realistic view.

For example, as I have discussed above like thinking about the features of Snapchat and their filters, Here We can be able to make varieties of funny selfies with various add-ons and filters etc.

It is the best technology where we can be able to places the digital information onto the real image or video as per our requirement and thus, we can be able to save most of the environment unaltered in the final view. But in case of Virtual Reality (VR) such features are not attainable as because it actually ‘absorbs’ you image into a 3D environment or situation.

The AR has many advance features and due to because of its extra ordinary functionality it has become widespread. It is used to have a simple fact which we can experience using only a smartphone. But when we are used to have while for VR you need to have special equipment to enable the environment and its application setup.

As per the uses prospect many people think of AR as a tool for fun, but in real scenario it is being used as a powerful add-on for creating the realistic-like experiences with various products and applications which are widely being used in any industry nowadays.

FUNCTIONAL APPROACH OF AR?

When we are going to consider the functional aspect of AR technology then as of today it is quite common -tech giants like Apple and Google who are using this technology for creating many advance applications using AR toolkits to facilitate the development of the technology.

AR is actually works on overlaying layered structure to analyze the experience and among all the layers the first layer is the real world where we are used to apply the changes. Here by using the Layering effect the AR enables the user to see both natural and artificial light. In this process when the camera is get allowed to project over the object then it recognizes the target object and processes the image of the object. Here during this process if it is required then it also pastes a digital asset onto the image object to get the better experiences on the object. By using this mechanism, the AR enables a user to see both the real and artificial world simultaneously on the same plane without changing the layered structure.

We can also take the most common example of Gatwick airport who has developed an AR based application where the application is used to helps the passengers to navigate through their large site. To use this application the user is needed to get installed numerous beacons that guide people through the airport using augmented reality (AR). This is basically a navigation app which provides a real time experience to the user and passengers.

TYPES OF AR WHICH SUPPORT THE SMART PHONE APPLICATIONS:

When we are used to analyze the AR based scenario, there are mainly four types of Augmented Reality that we used to have which can be easily get configured with smart phones for developing the better interfaces. These are discussed as below.

  • Marker-based AR (Image Recognition based mechanism):

It is a most advanced mechanism which is being used most frequently to build the applications like QR code or a specific images-based recognition application.  Such kind of applications uses phone camera and certain visual markers for sensing the image of the object that produce AR when sensed by the camera.

It is also being used when we need to have the requirement such that our image to come alive, then we can use this marker-based AR technique to enable the process. We are having many applications which is based on this approach such as print media (posters, logos, brochures, etc.) or objects (bottles or some machinery etc.) like ScanLife or Popcode.

  • Marker less AR (Non- Image based Recognition based approach):

It is a non-images-based recognition approach where the object is having a physical relation with the reference or environment layer. It is the most popular type of AR which is used to develop many enhanced applications such as accelerometer, GPS or digital compass. By using this technology, we can be able to provide data to the device based on location or speed.

It should be get noted that it is also useful for showing physical objects in relation to other objects. It is the special feature that it is used to exhibit for establishing the mapping directions, finding nearby companies and other location centered apps. The well common example of such concept is ARIS. It is an interactive storytelling application which is being used more widely for enabling such enhanced feature.

AR in Projection Based Technique:

The AR is being used in Projection based approach also where we are used to project the light source onto a real surface to get the ambiance effect on another surface. Its function is almost similar to a movie projector that we are used to have in our home, offices and auditorium. Here the most convenient facts are that if you are using this device then you don’t need any further additional equipment like a screen or a headset to visualize the facts or object scenes.

Some important feature for these techniques is,

  1. It should be get noted that this type of AR based projection technique is usually deployed for large conferences or events.
  2. It is basically used to show large objects (cars, vans, etc.).
  3. It can be used for consumer feedback on different models.
  4. It can be interactive and uses sensors and 3D.
  5. For examples laser plasma technology which uses AR to project 3D interactive hologram.

Superimposition based AR

It is another important mechanism where we use the Object recognition-based technique to admire the scenario. Here the AR uses object recognition technique where the augmented image replaces the original image fully or partially as per the requirement we used to have.

It should be get noted that unlike the above technique it basically gets used in the field of medicine relating to superimposing X-ray onto a patient’s body. This is having the better visibility than previous technique. It is also being used for showcasing a painting or a statue and how it looked like originally.

BENEFITS OF AR
The scope and implementation of AR technology is now not only limited to entertainment only but also it is being widely spread in many industries like healthcare, e-commerce, architecture, advertising and others. So, its benefits are get increased up to great extents in now a day every field of science. Some of the important facts I am going to listing out as below for your reference.

  1. Potential of AR is immense, and brands are already utilizing AR technology to provide a brand-new user experience to their customers. For examples creating product demos, interactive advertising or providing real-time information to consumers.
  2. Personalized Customer Experience because it is a great way for enhancing our businesses engagement. Here using this technology, we can be able to provide the better services to our consumers where they can virtually ‘try-on’ the product. Examples like Lens kart, Ray- Ban etc.
  3. Interactive Advertising, where we are used to have a great experience of AR techniques. For example, Starbucks which uses this technique for interactive advertising their Starbucks Cup Magic.
  4. Another best example is pinterest.com where the interactive advertisement is going to be get implemented up to great extent to print or not the required content.
  5. Consumer Engagement is another best benefit of this technology. For example, Sephora. In this application we can be able to enhance our requirement based on functional prospect.  Here you only need to take a shot of your face and plunge into an adventure of trying out different colors of lipsticks and other delicacies they offer.
  6. Boosting B2B Mobile Marketing is another important benefit of this technique. For example, if we consider any Product-based companies then they can show their goods with AR-driven 360 view and interactive experience. The most convenient example also includes the Cisco AR catalogue. Here you can be able to explore the product features, rotate the products and learn more about the key technologies.
